Scream 7 (2026) – Annoyed Yell

Released: 26th February
Seen: 2nd August

In November of 2023, it was announced that Melissa Barrera was no longer going to be a part of Scream 7. She was fired over a handful of posts she’d made calling the attacks in Gaza a genocide, these posts were deemed anti-semitic by Spyglass… they were not, they were calling out the actions of the government of Israel and specifically those of its leader, who right now has a warrant out for his arrest in relation to war crimes, specifically the genocide in Gaza. This was a pretty obvious overreaction back in 2023 but the feeling of anger towards Spyglass only grew as the war raged on and it became even more obvious that Melissa was right, which led to a lot of people calling for a boycott of Scream 7. This is why I didn’t go see the film during its initial release, despite loving this franchise which was my introduction to the horror genre that I love so much. Now Melissa has come out and said she’s moved on from everything, and the film made so much money that it feels silly to keep boycotting it (this isn’t a Harry Potter situation where the people who made it are so hateful that giving them a dollar actively harms others) so I finally saw it… and it’s probably the worst entry in this legendary franchise.

Scream 6 (2023) – Scream A Little Louder

Released: 9th March
Seen: 8th March

On June 6th Neve Campbell made an announcement that she was not going to appear in Scream 6 due to negotiations with Paramount falling through when they didn’t give her the money that she felt she was worth to the franchise. This was, quite frankly, insane to believe because Neve Campbell is the face of the Scream franchise, as important to it as phone calls and the concept of horror movie trivia so for Paramount to decide to just not give her what she is worth is abysmal on their part. It is my sincere hope that when Scream 7 comes around they actually give her what she deserves and then some because I don’t know how many films in this franchise they can make without the iconic Sidney Prescott… apparently, they can make at least one though because, despite this serious issue, Scream 6 is actually fantastic.

The Top Ten Best Films of 2022

2022 has been another strange year, we seem to be having a lot of those lately. This is the year that we all just kind of got bored with the pandemic and decided things should return to normal, meaning even if you wanted to try and avoid society (or as I like to call it “be normal”) you had no choice but to try and take part. For the world of movies, this has actually seen a lot of big things happen, from the box office bouncing up a little more towards being normal to heads of studios changing around to possibly the best news, the end of the Snyderverse (yes I did put that there to weed out people who would be overly upset by that joke, thanks for noticing).

Scream Info

The first horror movie I ever saw was a little film called Scream. Obviously not when it came out (I would’ve been 8) but several years later I got a DVD of it as a birthday present from, of all people, my grandmother. Apparently, she’d asked around what movies I enjoyed and at that time I’d rented the Wayans Brothers comedy Scary Movie a lot so she got that info, something got lost in translation and I had a copy of Scream that I didn’t watch until there was nothing but sports on TV and it was my only option for entertainment… and before the end of the opening scene I was hooked.
